St John the Baptist Church is a picturesque church in a peaceful rural setting. Parts of the Church date from the 12th century, although an extensive Victorian restoration removed many of the medieval features but a fine vaulted ceiling with carved bosses remains. The Church has an attractive 16th century timber bell tower topped by a squat steeple. There is a stained glass window of contemporary design based on the theme of “light” which was installed to celebrate the Millenium.
In the churchyard is an ancient stone prayer cross and St John the Baptist Church is known as “the Poets’ Church” and the celebrated poet Frances Horovitz is buried here. The Church is a venue for poetry and musical events.
